On Sunday, May 2nd, 2021, the HNEC Chairman Dr. Emad Al-Sayah, welcomed, at his office, the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Libya, H.E. Mr. Jan Kubis. At the beginning of the meeting, they recalled with regret and sorrow, the third anniversary of the terrorist attack on the HNEC, in May 2nd, 2018, which killed some of the best HNEC staff, and discussed the ways to prevent the recurrence of this painful incident.
During the meeting, they discussed the content of Security Council Resolution No. 2570/ 2021, related to the general elections to be held on December 24th, 2021, and the roadmap that will lead to July 1st, the actual start date for the implementation of the upcoming December 24th elections.
Further, they reviewed HNEC’s plan to implement the elections, and ways to overcome the obstacles that may hinder the implementation process; highlighting the role of the Government and its Institutions in supporting the electoral process in general, and the HNEC, in particular.
