HNEC Chairman, Dr. Emad Al-Sayah, welcomed, At HNEC Headquarters in Tripoli, H.E. Mr. Ján Kubiš, the UN Secretary-General Special Envoy, in the presence of Mr Abdul-Hakim Belkhair, HNEC Board Member, Mr. Panto Litec, Chief Electoral Adviser, UNSMIL, Mr. Raisedon Zenenga, Assistant Secretary-General and Mission Coordinator and Ms. Georgette Gagnon, Assistant Secretary-General, Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Libya.
During the meeting, they focused on discussing some important points concerning the readiness of HNEC to implement the electoral events, decided at the end of this year. Dr. Emad also discussed the difficulties and obstacles facing the Commission in implementing this entitlement, in addition to discussing and reviewing the various political positions of the relevant actors, involved in the peaceful devolution of power, scheduled for December 24th, 2021; as well as the role of the new executive authority in fulfilling its promises and obligations, in support of the requirements for holding elections, in accordance with international standards and principles. Further, the participants discussed the International support, especially what is provided by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, in the field of technical and advisory support
It is worth mentioning that this visit comes as part of the preparations for the upcoming elections.
