A MEETING BETWEEN THE HNEC AND THE PREPARATORY COMMITTEE FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE LIBYAN WOMEN’S UNION TO DISCUSS WAYS OF COOPERATION

The member of the HNEC Board of Commissioners Mrs. Rabab Halab discussed, in a meeting held on Wednesday, with the representatives of the Preparatory Committee for the Establishment of the Libyan Women’s Union, a number of issues related to women’s electoral participation and ways to enhance it in cooperation with civil society organizations concerned with women.

The meeting reviewed the electoral awareness plan for women and the involvement of the Union in activating cooperation mechanisms and implementing a package of future programmes and activities aimed at enhancing the electoral participation of women.

Mrs. Halab welcomed the proposals submitted by the Preparatory Committee for the Establishment of the Union, stressing that the Commission relies on the civil society sector for the success of the awareness plans and activities, noting that the Libyan Women Union project, which will bring together a wide range of organizations active in supporting women’s issues, will have A major impact on the success of the awareness campaigns for the elections to be held in December 2021.

The meeting discussed the cooperation mechanism for the success of the elections of the Women’s Union in its next session, and the advisory support that the Commission will provide in this context, in addition to a proposal to sign a memorandum of understanding between the Preparatory Committee for the Establishment of the Union and the Women Support Unit of the HNEC, to organize joint cooperation during the upcoming elections.
