Today, Sunday, November 29, 2020, the headquarters of the Electoral Administration Office, Benghazi, organized a training workshop on the comprehensive design and easy access of polling stations, under the supervision of the People with Disabilities Support Unit of HNEC in cooperation with the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES).
The workshop targeted engineers of the Authority of Technology and Maintenance of Educational Facilities of the Ministry of Education and representatives of CSOs concerned with persons with disabilities.
The session, which will last for three days, reviewed the local and international standards that address the issue of polling centers’ design to ensure easy access to the ballot boxes by people with disabilities.
The Head of the Persons with Disabilities Support Unit, Ms. Magda Al-Katib, stated that, this session comes as a continuation of the training program organized by the Commission in cooperation with the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) in December of last year 2019, in the presence of representatives of the Ministry of Education and a number of CSOs on (accessible architectural design). The aim of such course is to design polling stations in schools that enhance the accessibility and participation of persons with disabilities in the electoral process.
